Old stones
Nestled on an estate of more than eight hectares, Château de Marnand traces its origins to a medieval seigneury of the de Loys family. In 1698, Johannes Müller, bailiff of Moudon, had the present château built against the old 16th-century fortified house. Left to ruin, the château was rescued in 2020 by Luca and Ludmilla Bizzozero. Five years of restoration, carried out with the support of Patrimoine Suisse and the Canton of Vaud, have restored the volumes, colours and gardens it would have had at the end of the 18th century.
The story of the place
Its present appearance owes much to the work carried out around 1786 by the Bernese architect Carl Ahasver von Sinner: a French-style garden, corner pavilions, a courtyard with axial fountain, and a wrought-iron gated portal. The estate went on to lead several lives — a boarding school for young English girls in the 19th century, an Art Deco loggia by Louis Bosset in 1924, then nearly eighty years under the care of a philanthropic association.
